Brett Portieous

Born   April 30 1987 in Cornwall

I've been training MMA for over 8 years. Starting my training in boxing at the age of 14 at the cornwall's local boxing club "Champs Eastside Boxing" with Jorge Luis. There I developed the great basics and fundamentals of boxing that really applies to MMA stand up. My grappling training started well before I ever stepped foot on a grappling mat. Having to wrestle my brother daily I developed a solid grappling base. At the age of 16 I was first taught how to grapple.
I took Judo at the late Claude Bourdeau Dojo Cornwall School of Martial Arts. There I fine tuned my grappling base, learning many throws, postions and submissions. After sometime I switched to BJJ at Ronin MMA in Ottawa. At 18 I realized that I had to train full time to have success. At that time I moved to Vernon BC where I train under BJJ Blackbelt Dave Phillips. When Dave left Vernon I moved back to Cornwall and trained at various clubs in the Ottawa area such as Fit MMA and Team Bushido. I trained with the likes of Nabil Khatib, Craig Brown, Jason Motard and Stephane Lamarche. I've been competing in grappling tourneys since the age of 16.
